Taking the Crooked Road unites one of bluegrass music's sweetest voices with one of its most celebrated banjoists. Vocalist and bassist Linda Lay, from Bristol VA/TN, has been delighting audiences for years, fronting such groups as Appalachian Trail and Springfield Exit. Sammy Shelor,of Meadows of Dan, Virginia, is a blistering banjo master, and leader of legendary Lonesome River Band.The material draws from some of the top bluegrass writers. The title cut "Taking the Crooked Home" along with "Blow out the Candle Laura" are penned by Tom T. & Dixie Hall. The song "Bobby and Tommy" is written by Harley Allen and it will absolutely chill you to the bone. The material they chose were tunes that could very well have happenned along the crooked road. the moon shining song "Legend of Johny Clay" is penned by Daniel Sayler and the murder tune "Brambles, Briars and Me" is written by Tommy Freeman . The material on this CD runs true to their blue grass roots.
